Recently, “Mystery Box” activities becoming a trend among the global cultural industry. More and more well-known IPs, museums, and animation companies joined this mainstream to meet this emerging demand. According to iiMedia Research, the global trendy toy market has reached 124.74 billion yuan in 2019 and is expected to reach 249.48 billion yuan in 2023. As an essential segment of the imaginative play, the Mystery Box market will develop rapidly accordingly.
Mystery Box originated in Japan in the last century. Merchants put different items into same type boxes. Buyers never know the items until the box gets paid and opened, which means the “mystery” will be revealed the moment it is opened. If the buyer is lucky enough, they can draw high-value items. This kind of surprise brought by uncertainty has inspired everyone, especially young people. Now Mystery Box machines can be seen everywhere, proving that Mystery Box has become an emerging economic model with huge development potential.
With the new features, each box contains a random NFT with a unique serial number for both. All the Mystery Boxes can only be created by the system but the users.
In addition, some of the NFTs will add a Mystery Box tag, and the section of “My Mystery Box” will be added under the “My NFT” zone. Users can easily open or sell the Mystery Box directly. Meanwhile, it also supports users to check the sale status of their Mystery Boxes. Further details and introduction are as below.
Mystery Box Tag
In the “Recently Listed” section on the homepage, if the current NFT is a Mystery Box, a small “Mystery Box” tag will appear beside the name of NFTs. The same box type will share a common name with a different serial number.
“My Mystery Box” Feature in “My Wallet”
“My Mystery Box” feature will show in the “My Wallet” interface, which is below the section of “My NFT.” There are four categories of the NFTs: 1). “Available for Sale,” 2). “Selling,” 3). “Bidding,” 4). “Completed,” which allows users to check their NFTs details and status. Meanwhile, the display methods of those Mystery Boxes will be the same as the existing NFTs. In the “Available for Sale” category, there are two types of Mystery Boxes: “Unopened” and Opened.” For the “Unopened” boxes, users can sell or open them. For the opened one, users can sell it directly.
“Unopened Mystery Box” in “Available for Sale” Category
For the “unopened” box, users will see the following details of the Mystery Box: thumbnail, creator’s name, the name, and the number of the mystery box.
Suppose users want to sell the mystery box. In that case, they need to click the “Sell” button to enter the Mystery Box details page: 1). a button “List Now” at the top of the page, which includes the thumbnail, name, serial number of the Mystery Box; 2). a detailed introduction of the current Mystery Box at the middle of the page; 3). box style, the number of releases, rarity, and probability statistics of each type are shown at the bottom of the page.
Click the “List Now” button to enter the Mystery Box sale page, and the sale logic is consistent with the existing NFTs.
Open a Mystery Box in the “Available for Sale” Category
If the users want to open the Mystery Box, then need to click the “Open Now” button to enter the details page: 1). a button “Open Now” at the top of the page, which includes the thumbnail, name, serial number of the Mystery Box; 2). a detailed introduction of the current Mystery Box at the middle of the page; 3). box style, the number of releases, rarity, and probability statistics of each type are shown at the bottom of the page.
When opening the box, a beautiful opening animation will pop up. After that, users can see the thumbnail, rarity, name, and number of the NFT.
Sale the “Opened Box” in the “Available for Sale” Category
Users can see the thumbnail, creator’s name, NFT name, and serial number for the opened box. The selling method is the same as “Unopened Box.”
